Andrew Webb http://www.andrewwebbmusic.com Andrew Webb Recent Blog Posts En August! http://www.andrewwebbmusic.com/node/262 http://www.andrewwebbmusic.com/node/262 I can't believe it is August! The summer has flown by, but not without me having played everywhere!Just got done with Heavenfest this last weekend with Megan Isaacson. It was the hottest day of my life I think, but we had so much fun worshiping. Plus, I got to see Petra and the Supertones all in one day. That was amazing. If you've seen the news, then you know that Break The Chains has been released, and will hopefully be available soon! But that is just the beginning. I am in the studio working on 3 more songs, which will hopefully lead to a 5 song ep release in the next month or two. Which means, that I am busy recording, writing, arranging, and it is incredible. I am not a blogger, but this is the best I can do right now. You'll be hearing from me soon, believe it. or don't... but seriously. keep your eyes peeled for BREAK THE CHAINS on any online store near you. After trying countless times to explain this concept to the local Barista, or Waiter, only to receive a slightly strange look, or an awkward laugh, I am just now starting to understand. What started out a week ago as a ‘water only’ challenge has become more than just drinking water.             I am beginning to feel the effects of my caffeine-deprived body, as I try to keep my eyes opened, and stay alert in the Colorado snow. I need some coffee, or so I keep telling myself, in order to stay awake while I drive. After a few moments of slapping my face, and doing whatever it takes to make sure I don’t crash, I remembered why I was doing this.            It wasn’t because I am sick of coffee.            It wasn’t because of lent.            It wasn’t even to prove I could do it.             I am doing this, because I have the privilege to do this. And if I didn’t, I would be ignoring the urgency and passion that has been put upon my heart. In the past few months, I have been made aware over and over (and over) about the water crisis in Africa. It started with a book our small group went through around Christmas called Advent Conspiracy. This began opening me up to the suffering people are going through all over the world, and it gave me hope that we can make a difference. I also found out that my friend had a campaign with an organization called Blood:Water Mission. I had heard of them before, and sort of knew what they did. I quickly found out that the water crisis in Africa was enormous, and the simple math that $1 would translate to one year of water for one person. This got me thinking; I bet I could give up one dollar. Well, now I am on week two of the 40 Days of Water Challenge, I am beginning to see why this is so important. The other day, I grabbed a handful of espresso beans and ate them (partly out of desperation, partly out of sheer tiredness). As I was crunching the bitter beans in my mouth, I realized that this small challenge, these 40 days of drinking water, would last much longer than 40 days. This small sacrifice of luxury that we depend on daily is worth giving up. It is worth all the tiredness, and all of the awkward glances, even if it gives one person hope, and life. Matthew 25:40 says, “Whenever you did one of these things to someone overlooked or ignored, that was me—you did it to me.” I am humbled beyond belief to have the opportunity to participate in something like this. May you be challenged and encouraged to support Africa, and all those who are overlooked an ignored. Whether its through Blood:Water Mission, or another organization, we cannot sit idly by. Thank you for your support. It was in Fort Collins at Everyday Joe’s. Since then I have seen Jonah perform many times, and have played quite a few shows myself. After playing in Utah, and Texas, and countless other places, I’m excited for an opportunity to play with Jonah Werner again! If you don’t know anything about Jonah Werner, he is awesome. His live shows are nonstop funny, and heart wrenching. He will take you through a journey of humor, romance, and true love, and by the end, your face will hurt from smiling so much! Needless to say, Jonah Werner is one of my favorite people to watch live. This Friday, I’m playing with Jonah at The Loft, a hip new venue in Colorado Springs. The show is sold out already, so if you wanted to come, sorry! But hopefully I’ll be able to play up there again soon. If you can make it to the Cookies and Milk Barn Bash on Saturday, we are going to have a great time. I’m also playing at Genoa Coffee & Wine on Thursday the 25th. This will be an acoustic show, and one worth coming to.That’s all for now. See you soon. Wed, 17 Feb 2010 00:00:00 -0600 Break The Chains http://www.andrewwebbmusic.com/posts/02-03-10/break-chains http://www.andrewwebbmusic.com/posts/02-03-10/break-chains I wrote a song this year titled "Break The Chains." This song has slowly been transforming since I wrote it, and taking on all kinds of meanings. It started while I was reading a few books. The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis played a huge role in my writing. If you don't know anything about Screwtape Letters, it is a collection of fictional letters from a demon to his nephew (who is a demon in training). It it all about how to trip up humans, and get them to fall. It's almost like a diary from a soldier in a war, talking about how to win the battle. This got me thinking about my own life, and how sometimes it really does feel like a war. The other book I had in my mind was The Magic Bicycle by John Bibee. It's a children's book about, well, a magic bicycle. John [the main character] stumbles upon an old bike, that ends up being more than ordinary. It eventually leads him to see beyond the average realm we are accustomed to. He notices that some people have chains around their necks, and some have been taken off. The only problem is that those who were freed are constantly being agitated by some kind of creatures who try to put the chains back on. These books, though very different, actually have some pretty similar ideas in them. I wrote this song, because everyday it seems I remove the chains that so easily get put back on me. We actually grow so used to the chains being on, that we prefer the chains to the freedom. Wouldn't it be great if the chains were broken, once and for all? I would give anything for them to be broken. Not just temporarily relieved from the chains, but truly freed from them. If I had to give up my name, I would. If I had to deny myself, I would. (At least, I would like to). I would give up everything, to be free from the chains that bind me. There are many more layers to this song, and I'm sure it will continue to surprise, encourage, and change me, as I hope it does for you. Wed, 03 Feb 2010 00:00:00 -0600
